Minimalism as a Practice

Not the aesthetic. The habit of deciding what a thing is for before you keep it.
The look is the least of it
Minimalism has been sold as a look: white walls, one chair, a plant. The look is the least interesting part. The practice is asking, of every object and every commitment, what it is for, and being willing to hear the answer.
Nothing you cannot explain
Done honestly it is not about having less. It is about having nothing you cannot explain. The chair stays because you sit in it. The subscription goes because you cannot remember what it does.
Where the time goes
The surprising effect is on time. Fewer things to maintain, choose between and clean means the hours come back, and what you do with them is the actual point.
