The Art of Slow Living

Slowness is not a lack of ambition. It is a decision about what deserves your attention.
Not a luxury
Slow living gets dismissed as a luxury for people with nothing to do. In practice its keenest adopters are the busiest people we know, who found that doing everything fast meant doing nothing well.
The mechanics
The mechanics are unglamorous: one thing at a time, meals eaten sitting down, a walk without a podcast, a weekend with nothing booked. Each of them is a small refusal to be hurried by something that does not deserve it.
What comes back
What comes back is attention, and attention is the scarce thing. The work gets better, the people get more of you, and the hurry turns out to have been optional all along.
