The New Logic of Digital Native Brands

How a generation of companies built for the internet is rewriting the rules of customer acquisition, retention, and brand loyalty.
Born on the internet
In the last decade a new class of companies has emerged: brands built for the internet from day one. They understand that the rules of customer acquisition, retention and loyalty have changed, and they never learned the old ones.
Skipping the old playbook
Traditional brands spent decades building distribution networks, retail partnerships and mass-media campaigns. Digital natives skip all of that. They launch on one platform, grow by word of mouth, and sell directly through their own sites.
A new logic
The result is a new logic of brand building. Instead of broad awareness, niche communities. Instead of one-way advertising, two-way relationships. Instead of corporate messaging, showing the work in public.
What it means for incumbents
The implication is uncomfortable for incumbents: a small team can compete with a giant, authenticity beats polish, and the brands that win are the ones that treat the internet as a native medium rather than another channel.
